April

I look back on April with a subtle smile of relief; at long last a few sunny days to wake us up after a drawn out winter. Nature’s finally rousing and bringing with it the welcome return of chattering birds and blooms of blossom. And everything’s beginning to buzz with infectious energy, painting even the most mundane daily chores picture perfect. My highlight of April was an impromptu mini break to the Lakes. It turned out be one of the best weekend getaways I’ve ever had and it’s no surprise that 2 of my top 3 memories this month stem from those adventure-filled 72 hours in the North West.

  1. Caving
Zipped up in a fetching waterproof onesie (photographs supplied on request), 30 metres below the Yorkshire Dales. A once in a lifetime experience.
  2. Wansfell Pike
Spring sunshine, my favourite Lakeland fell and lying down on a grassy verge with great company and the feeling of all the time in the world.
  3. Spring in Bristol
Three best friends, sunshine, shopping, cookies and cocktails. Need I say more?

To May, which brings with it the promise of a good summer and not one, but two bank holidays. I’ll be spending the first with a traditional family visit to the Downton Cuckoo Fair. Think maypole dancing, local ale, craft stalls and mini doughnuts! Snaps to follow.
